The Weave Calculator product follows my general privacy philosophy in so far as how my code written, while the advertising framework used in version 1.0 is covered by Microsoft's privacy policy:
Weave Calculator 1.0
Weave Calculator version 1.0 is an ad supported product. It uses Microsoft's PubCenter advertising framework and so data resulting from the interaction of users and advertisements may result in data being sent to the advertiser. What data advertisers collect and how they use it is governed by their contracts with Microsoft. You can learn more about Microsoft's policies with regard to privacy at http://privacy.microsoft.com. Users of Weave Calculator can opt in or out of use of Microsoft's PubCenter advertising framework. When you first open the application, you'll be asked for consent. If you do not grant consent or revoke consent later via the settings page, Weave Calculator will cease showing advertisements and cease communicating with the advertising service. Weave Calculator will revert to limited mode functionality. In limited mode, you can do everything except save and reload projects. You can grant or revoke consent at any time via the settings page. Weave Calculator 1.0 has a privacy policy indirectly reachable via the information icon (an icon that looks like a question mark) and is directly reachable via a menu item in the application bar. Collection of information about crashes is enabled by default but can disabled (or re-enabled) at will. Information about feature usage is disabled by default but can be re-enabled (or disabled) at will. In other words, crash reporting is opt-out and feature use reporting is opt-in. If you have not disabled feature use collection, version 1.0 will report the following data:
All of the information above is kept as counts aggregated over all users. In other words, if you visit the settings screen 5 times and all other users visited the the settings screen a total of 1023 times, the only information saved is that collectively all users visited the settings screen a grand total of 1028 times. No record is kept of how many times you visited the settings screen. If you have not disabled crash reporting, Weave Calculator 1.0 will report:
You can opt-out of the monitoring of normal usage and continue opting-in to crash reporting -- or vice versa. Weave Calculator 1.1
Weave Calculator version 1.1 is a free product with no advertising. You are no longer required to opt in to advertisements to get full functionality. Weave Calculator 1.1 follows my general privacy philosophy:
If Weave Calculator 1.1 detects that it is crashing, it attempts to log the data needed to generate a bug report. The next time you start Weave Calculator 1.1, it will recommend that you let it generate and send a bug report. You can generate a bug report manually at any time. The bug report will be composed with Weave Calculator's observations of its state since you most recently started the application. You will need to add a description of what misbehavior you saw. I use the bug reports to learn if/when Weave Calculator is behaving badly and to provide clues to the root cause of the bug. I use all information received to guide my priorities. If I know certain features are being used a lot, I'll put a more effort into making sure that they work well. I'm also more likely to put a larger fraction of my efforts into adding features and products that I think would complement the kinds of things I observe you doing. Weave Calculator saves your settings, all your projects' data, and all pending bug reports to its application storage on your phone. If you have configured your phone to backup all application data to the cloud, this data will leave your phone. Weave Calculator itself does not send any of this data off your phone (except when you tell Weave Calculator to send me a bug report). Weave Calculator tracks information about its interactions with you and its internal state since you most recently started the application. Unless you create a bug report or Weave Calculator crashes, the tracking information vanishes when you stop Weave Calculator. The tracking is not written to application storage or sent off the phone except as part of a bug report. As mentioned earlier, you can edit the information in a bug report before you send the report out. Copyright© 2011-2012 by Canitag(tm) Apps N Crafts. |
