This page sketches my current plans regarding entirely new applications. For information
about plans relating to an existing application, go back to the Applications page and from
there to the plans for the application of interest.
Design Assistant for Knitting and Crochet
This application will have the ability to generate hand and machine knit
patterns in a way similar to that of Knitware plus the added ability to "paint"
the pieces with colors and stitch patterns. By default, the designs will be in
stockinette done in a single yarn, in a single color. This application will also
add support for crochet, at least worked back-and-forth. TBD is whether output as
charts is in the initial version and how to recoup my costs in providing access
to knit and crochet chart fonts.
The initial version of the application will run unders Windows 10. The target
release window is some time between late winter 2016/2017 and late spring 2017.
The plan is for the initial release to support designing sweaters and afghans.
On the wish list for later releases are:
creation of a Windows 7 compatible version
creation of a lightweight reader app for phones and tablets to assist in displaying
and ideally reading aloud pattern instructions in knitter/crocheter sized chunks. To maintain
a bookmark of current position.
support for designing more kinds of things: shawls, dresses, baby pants and onesies,
hats, gloves, mittens, ...
ability to easily upload designs to Ravelry

On The Wish List
Application that accepts cut & paste text of a knitting pattern and outputs
a pattern in the same format as my pattern designer so that utilities for viewing the
pattern in charted form and for showing/reading the next bit of instructions can be
Application that scans knit charts and creates a text based set of instructions
for row-by-row instructions.
